The most common problems encountered in surfacing are cracking, and the main methods to prevent cracking are:

1. preheating before welding, controlling the temperature between layers, and slowly cooling after welding.

2. After welding to remove stress heat treatment.

3. Avoid cracking during multi-layer surfacing and use low hydrogen type surfacing electrode.

4. When necessary, the surfacing layer between the welding layer and the base material (with low carbon equivalent, high toughness of the electrode).
